The workshop image with the higher contrast is definitely better color, but the photo lacks something because of the multiple silhouetted objects. The main interest is the temple spires. The tree, the bush and the rock detract. The spires are also leaning, which can easily be corrected in PS.

This is a fine sunset shot, perfectly exposed with nicely colored sky, but the foreground is not all that interesting.

I was in Sri Lanka last Feb and visited Sigirya and I think I remember seeing this fresco. It was in a cave which was reached by a spiral stairway and where no flash photography was allowed. Your image appears to have been taken with a flash, or else it has been brought to life through PS.
