Great Wandering_Dan 2010-01-05 16:43

Hi, Kristine -

Have you been to Montana? It's the combination of huge open plains and the high altitude (4,000 feet) that makes it feel like big sky country.

Still, this shot qualifies as a "big sky" for the clouds and the drama in the sky. Good capture and well framed.

Best,
Dan

Default To Wandering_Dan: Montana

yes, we were in Montana last autumn, very briefly though, but managed to explore bits of Beartooth Highway. would love to go back there, and then to Glacier National Park, but this year it seems unlikely, we have too many things planned already, and there's only so much vacation days I can get...

best,
Kristine

That's the mountain part of Montana; I was thinking more of the Great Plains in the eastern part. I was there in 1979 - in Febuary, no less! - for a solar eclipse.

Beartooth Highway is one of the most fabulous roads I've been on. Also dangerous - we hit a patch of black ice and had a dicey moment. Spectacular scenery.

Best,
Dan
