Great happypoppeye 2007-06-08 11:01

Nice and sharp with great color. I'm not too partial to the composition though. It is just at too much of an angle with the door as the focal point and the wall on the left does nothing for the photo. That said, I know how tiny these alleys can be so good work with what you had.. It is an interesting photo.

Default To happypoppeye: composition

John,
You're quite right this isn't an ideal composition - with a ladder, a tripod, a very wide-angle lens and a lot of time I might have been able to do a little better, but not much. But I had neither of those things anyway. It was a very narrow alley and any attempt to get a more frontal view just caused to the wall on the left to cover the door or get part of it outside the frame. But this was definitely the nicest "Shibam door" example I found, the typical style, nicely carved and freshly painted. So this is it, I'm afraid. (Yes, I'd love to go back some time and have at least a whole afternoon instead of little more than an hour...)

(You'll note I didn't forget the obligatory wires in this shot. ;))
