Default Country list

Are there any plans to review the list of countries? This topic http://www.trekearth.com/forums/show...62#post1199762 provides a bit of background to the question.

Is the question, do we add Curacao to the list of countries or not? If it is, I'm sure we can do that...

I suppose that is the basic question. The wider one is that other 'new' countries have been created as well e.g. Greenland which I think still shows under Denmark. We also have places like Bermuda which has its own parliament etc but relies on the UK for security & policing. Although in the Caribbean, Bermuda comes up as UK - Bermuda which does seem bizarre to many people.

The French may not agree, but personally I find it rather absurd to see New Caledonia, Réunion, Martinique etc listed as parts of France, or even worse, "Europe". What kind of information about the world do we get from seeing tropical beaches in "France"?
Greenland and the Faroe Islands are parts of Denmark but have wide-ranging autonomy in most matters except for foreign policy. They have their own parliaments and governments and are not really parts of Denmark.
Definitely missing from TE are the Comoros, which was requested by a member recently who wanted to upload pictures from there. The Comoros have been an independent, sovereign republic since 1975. In July 2011 South Sudan became an equally independent, sovereign and universally recognized republic (except by TrekEarth)

Ha, well... it seems we have some dispute here.

When there is a community consensus over which countries should be included, I will take the list to the tech department and have it implemented.

This link may be useful http://geography.about.com/od/countr...a/capitals.htm It is a list of countries as defined by the UN and is possibly as good a start point as any. It does have Comores as a seperate country but not Greenland (for example). There is further information on Territories, Dependencies and Colonies which may well open a can of worms.

Without opening any can of French, Dutch or Danish worms, at least there should be no question at all about the independence of the Comoros or South Sudan.
Since Palestine is recognized by TrekEarth but very few others (including the Arab League and UNESCO), I guess Kosovo should be included as an independent state on this site. Its independence is disputed by many governments, but in all practical realities it is a separate state, no longer part of Serbia.

No questions about Comoros.... unless the pictures are taken in Mayotte, which is also a part of France!!! (département)
If taken in the other islands of the archipelago, they should be posted under: Union of the Comoros or Union des Comores in French... although the Comorian name is "Udzima wa Komori", but I saw none of those in the TE country list....
