Great holmertz 2019-01-21 2:05

Hello Bev,
Are you sure this is supposed to be a rhino, and not some fantasy monster imagined by a medieval artist who had also never seen or possibly even heard of rhinos? I am inclined to agree with Chris' theory of a dragon. But it really doesn't matter for the quality of this very sharp and well exposed photo which shows us a number of fantastic details of the highest artistic value. The same goes for the wonderful WS photo.
Kind regards,
Gert

Default To holmertz: A Rhino in Reims

Thank you for your warm critique, Gert.

I wasn't sure about the carving but considered that maybe, from times past, when the Romans used to bring strange beasts, including rhinos, from Africa, to die in their Colosseum, there may have been a recorded memory!
Anyway, the alliteration of 'Rhino' and 'Reims' was too good to ignore!

Have a lovely day,
Bev
