Default server problems?

for the last few days, the TE page behavior has been quite erratic for me: every third or fourth click results in a timeout error. it was not so just a week ago. anyone else notice these problems?

It's not the last few days, but it is like that for the last several weeks (or months rather)...

Will they do anything about it...?

Yeah... Sure...!

:-)))

well, if you're referring to previous (in 2007, I wasn't here before) outages - i have to admit, i experienced a period of "almost no problems" for quite a stretch of time. what we see in the last weeks, must be something new on their site/server.

cheers,
k.

as to access: i guess, one solution (to make it reliable) would be to move to paid service, but that would drastically reduce the worlwide coverage of this forum and throw the "trek-EARTH" idea out of the window...

Why not two versions in one ? (common practice on many photo sites )

If you are here for photography - you'll gladly accept the paid version of the site...
If you are interesting more about social blabbing - stay where you are... For free...

That's what I call: Freedom of choice...

That's my suggestion only - anyway...
And - they won't lose any world wide coverage...

Flickr didn't... Photonet didn't...

Paying for good service is a good practice... It's honest... It's respectable... It's logical.. It's the ONLY way...
Nothing's free in the smart part of the world ( and that's the way it should be)...
If someone is saying to you: Take it - it's FREE - watch out brothers and sisters...
Someone is treating you like a bunch of brainless idiots - obviously...

For - there is nothing free and it not suppose to be free...
Free - it's immoral and very, very expensive...
The world can hardly afford anything of being free...

Yes... It's THAT expensive...!!!

There is not enough of tears in the world to pay for this illusional free utopia for naive cretins ...

Have a smiling day, folks

hello george

i kindly disagree on this one. flicker and photonet are there, sure: they have their niche and that is fine with me (i even pay for the services of one of them even though i do not use it). nonetheless, a fee service (even if it was a quite symbolic fee for an American/Canadian photographer) would effectively deny access and participation to many from from places like ecuador, bolivia, philippines, iran, etc., places where $1 usd/day is high income... you might say, that these people do not participate anyway; not true, i have seen them here, posting scanned images from their granparents' cameras or from the cheapest digicams available. but i find their insider (you can call it saliva and blood) input as the biggest prize of this site. and i hope more of them find their way here through their local public internet access points. that's the idea i like about this site.

as to "free utopia": internet traffic (you, me, uncle joe around the block accessing this site) means $$$ these days... the more of us here clicking on pictures: the more $$$... see those little adds on the side bars? that's advertising dollars and that's revenue for whoever owns the site. true, this might not be used to the fullest here (and fullest would mean much annoyance for us all); and, possibly, these revenues are not sufficient to support decent servers. i cannot answer that question: the ownders should. but the model is there.

cheers and smiles
k.

ps. i have no objection against 'dual' pay/free system as long as the difference is not too discriminating to the ones from the aforementioned $1 usd/per day places.
