Great fulvio52 2007-02-16 4:47

Hi Talia,
nothing wrong with the tone of the picture.
It DOES look like The Valley at sunset.
POV and DOF are fine, and the colors + haze are right there.
You captured that, one-hundred-percent!
On the other hand, I agree with robertosalguero, it lacks a little in sharpness.
I posted my own version in WS.
Warm regards,

Default To fulvio52: sharper is better

Thanks Fulvio! I appreciate your WS. I like the sharper look. Is it something to do with my focus?

Hi Talia,
I'm glad you like my version with a little addictional sharpness.
Now, in my opinion I don't think it had anything to do with your focus. I tend to think it was due to the haze in the first place and partially to post-processing.
Let me tell you something : I went yesterday to the beach, some 20 miles west of Amsterdam, sunny and HAZY. I came back home with a bunch of pictures taken in the late afternoon, almost before sunset. Once I started looking at them on my I-Mac, I found myself facing the very same problem : fine shots but lucking sharpness in the depth. And I made expressly use of the preset option "Shoot landscapes with distant focus" on my Sony DSC-W100 to (partially) overcome the haze problem... So, there you go!
Under this type of circumstances the only thing you can do is (there again) to add sharpness in PP and try to adjust the saturation levels to a satisfying point according to your own taste.
Having said this : your picture was fine. You done a great job out there, I like it a lot.
Warm regards,
