Great weiphoto 2004-11-11 1:48

There's a lot to like about this picture. Your careful framing of the boat, with the shadow tip on the bottom just clearing the frame, with the left & right just put at the right places. The textures are varied, from the wood of the boat to the glissening [sp] water w/reeds. Reflections of the trees in back is good, also, with the tones just coming together. Altogether, as great composition. I also like the "color" of the monochrome. How did you do the color? In PS duotone? How did you transform the color to jpeg?

Default To weiphoto: The color, B&W and the sepia

Hi, and thanks for your nice words.

I shoot in color and when I like to I convert to B&W in PS by Image/Mode/Grayscale which gives a better quality than desaturating. Then I switch back to RBG again which gives a grey picture but in RGB mode. Back there the colorcontrols work again and to get sepia I just go to Image/Adjustment/Color balance and increase yellow and magenta. About twice as much yellow as magenta gives a nice sepia. For some pictures I like a cold look and add blue instead.
