Great macondo 2018-01-09 2:17

Hi Bev.
Very sharp details on this carefully composed / probably cropped photo. Nice and tight, anyway, with a good splash of colour in the diagonal bit top right. You really exposed it very well. But are you sure you didn't take this in Nepal? It's certainly surprising, but then Brittany seemed to me quite different from the rest of France. A Celtic strain of Buddhism?

Default To macondo: Buddhism in France

Thanks for your warm, thoughtful critique, Andrew.

As a matter of fact, I didn't crop the photograph, just had to do a tiny bit of levelling. I remember that when I was trying to get this close up, I really wanted a more straight on view of the lion's face but, if I did that, it compromised the lovely, angled, colourful details behind. It was better to include the patterns and the writing.

I agree, Brittany is very different from other regions of France, very independent and unexpected!

Have a lovely day,

Default Composition

Well, the composition works well, as the diagonal bit, as you say, is crucial to the photo. Sometimes when faced with this dilemma, I step back or shorten the focal length (preferably the former, to reduce distortion) with a view to cropping the shot later on, and doing a bit of straightening etc. to get the desired effect. But well done with this one.
