Photographer’s Note
Way down in the Algerian desert, approximately 1.000 km southwest of Algiers, is the town of Timimoun, often known as The red oasis. Almost every building has the same red/brown colour.
This picture from 1975, scanned from a Kodachrome slide, was taken early in the morning, before the streets had become crowded.

Good morning Gert!
A really fascinating view! This architecture is so exceptional and interesting - as the colours of the photo are! The quality is amazing concerning that it's a scan. Tthis donkey is a beautiful addition here.
Greetings from sunny Germany - and have a nice Sunday!

Hello Gert,
the first photo which I opened this morning is this fantastic-looking sight! I keep being amazed at such curious architecture, and, strangely, such "structures" mostly happen to be in Africa? I have often read in various articles that Africa is considered to be the "cradle of mankind". Who knows?
Pyramides, strangely looking mosques... such buildings like this... I guess they were inspired by extra-terrestrials :)
Very interesting photo :) And I really like the bright "African" colours! You are so lucky to have seen all this with your own eyes!
Have a nice Sunday!
kind regards,
Elena

Exotic scenery. Fine man riding donkey. This and the white element in the centre make the show.
Regards.

Salaam Gert
Very nice white structure emerging from the brown/blue surroundings, I see it's a picture taken in quieter times and so does it reflect a quiet impression, you have nice archives.
Have a nice day JY

Hello Gert
You obviously took a turn to the right - whereas we headed straight ahead from El Golea to In Salah. You have prompted me to get out my old Michelin map and I am wondering if at Reganne you turned left towards In Salah and then Tamanrasset or whether you were heading straight to Mali? Whatever I have never been to Timimoun, have never seen such red buildings - nor have I seen such architecture - seems like a red version of Tombouctou. As always your photos are extremely informative. I note a Citroen in the distance. Again a good scan with all colours retained. Tfs, Marlene

Hej Gert,
A very interesting example of some very different architecture. The brownish colourscale here seems to suit the environments very good but the central building here (is it a mosque?) is obviously painted. Is this some kind of durable paint? Whatever it is, it stands out very nice against this deep blue sky!

Hi Gert,
Wow, how splendid it looks! Incredible colours and very interesting architecture. You visited fantastic places. Nice composition with the donkey, strong colours, fabulous sky. Hard to believe it is from such old slide.

Hej Gert,
Great light captured with beautiful colors. This sight is still quite common in Pakistan (i.e. man riding a donkey.)
thanks for sharing

Hi Gert!
It may be old, but it has very good colours, it's well scanned and it shows an amazing place. I wonder how it is now. I like the way you framed it with the man passing, riding his donkey. The architecture is just great!

Hello Gert
I would presume these buildings are made of baked clay. Amazing architecture, I just wonder why the building in the FG is painted white & it does look like a mosque...correct me if I'm wrong. The man on his donkey is a great add. Fine quality of the scan & the colours are true Kodachrome
Regards
Angshu
