Photographer’s Note
Another picture from "The red oasis" – Timimoun in the Algerian desert, approximately 1.000 km southwest of the capital Algiers.
Timimoun has got its nickname for obvious reasons: almost every house is plastered with locally produced red mud.
This picture from a journey in 1975 was scanned from a Kodachrome slide.

Hej Gert,
In this picture of this red oasis, you have added a blue detail as the eye-catcher! (There seems to be a red dressed man in the background, but he is hardly visible). This place must have looked the same for eons, a very interesting photo!

Hello again my dear Gert
Great photo.
Chocolate basis color is very thick and good atmosphere. Kodachrome color is very mild indeed.

Hej Gert,
excellent quality of the scan! I wish I had had such good colour films some 30 years ago when photography was my main hobby besides writing...
the man wearing bright blue clothes catches attention at once - he seems to be the key figure among this Kingdom of "red mud"! Interesting documentary and historical photo. And again, I see these very curiously shaped buildings!
Kindest regards,
Elena

Hello Gert,
Rendition of film is great, indeed! This high color saturation and high contrast of Kodachrome is truly pleasant. This image has an excellent quality exceeding recent digital cameras despite old film. These archives seems your treasures.

Hi Gert. Fine quality you managed to pull off in this Kodachrome scan of a photo that you took when I was 8 years old :-O Good vertical crop to focus on the characteristic setting with the people and camels traversing in front of the re-e-e-d architecture. Fine rendition of the local atmosphere, very good.

Hello Gert,
Another really good image from you archive. It nice to see how thing has or has not changed in this part of the world, while we have changed form film to digital age. Sure the clarity of the image will never be the same, but the essence of the place is even more authentic and true. It is under vallued this classic film image. thanks

Hi Gert
Obviously very good lighting with the brilliant blue sky contrasting against the rich red buildings. The redness seems almost unreal - in saying this part of Australia's Northern Territory is known as the red centre. Tfs, Marlene
