Photographer’s Note

L’Algérie qui n’arrive pas à satisfaire la totalité de sa propre demande éprouve d’énormes difficultés à exporter. La facture des importations agricoles avoisine les 3 milliards de dollars. Les choix économiques importants faits au lendemain de l’indépendance en donnant la priorité à une industrialisation à outrance a pénalisé le secteur agricole. La conséquence de ce choix a eu pour conséquence de voir l’émergence d’un double secteur. Un secteur moderne et un secteur traditionnel complètement démuni d’outils de production performants.

Algeria which does not manage to satisfy the totality of the own demand feels enormous difficulties exporting. The invoice of agricultural imports borders the 3 billion dollars. The important economic choices made after the independence by giving priority to an industrialization with extravagance punished farming sector. The consequence of this choice had for consequence to see the emergence of a double sector. A modern sector and a traditional sector completely deprived of successful tools of production.

Very nicely composed. I like the way the sillouettes give the workers an aura of anonymity. Nice moody clouds to boot. TFS

magnifique, une ambiance terrible... la terre, le ciel plein de nuages, et ces gens, les pieds bien sur terre, devant gérer des conditions de vie bien difficiles. Une superbe photo qui, tout en étant esthétique, montre une réalité...

Bonsoir Didier,

Judicieux choix du noir et blanc qui accentue la pénibilité du travail de paysan dans ces régions. Ce ciel nuageux donne beaucoup de relief à la scène et un contraste appréciable. Sujet bien traité, bien vu Didier.

Interesting, very melancholic image. Somebody hard working, another one with hanging head, someone only partly visible. Your picture holds a lot of untold stories, which is very captivating. I also like the glorious, bright clouds above the barren field.

There is such a lot to tell here although the composition is minimalist. The female working with a primitive tool...the man hanging his head. I love the way you have been able to get low and place the action on the horizon line. B&W is certainly appropriate here. well done.

On sent la misère (que tu décris dans la note) dans la photo avec ces ombres qui travaillent, on ne sait pas trop quoi, pas trop comment. Le N&B et le cadrage horizontal (par le vide qu'il crée) renforcent cette sensation de misère.
Très réussi.

tres bon choix du noir et balnc pour cette compsotion de type moyenageux. les serfs sont dans les champs, des petits rien perdus dans une immensite hostile.

Oui, triste terre délaissée au profit de l'industrie - J'aime bien ce B&W où tu laisses la part belle au ciel obscure qui nous donne de suite le ton de ta note et de la triste réalité.

Great use of the silhoette to bring us this! The men against the sky show the shapes very well, but it might have been even better if there was just one man, or you were closer to them. This is still a good shot, and works very well to tell a story, which is never easy to do. Well done!

Une méthode traditionnelle/archaïque ou l'on voit bien la femme qui travaille d'arrache-pied avec sa pioche, tandis que l'homme scrute le terrain. Le ciel chargé renforce l'atmosphère de cette triste réalité...merci pour la note.

Like they were almost working in the clouds, a strong sober view with the explicit clouds and the working people tiny in counterlight to it, a fine moment to capture this on top of a glowing hill Didier.

Didier, c'est une photo qui m'a fait penser à l'Angelus de Millet. Un ciel menaçant, des silhouettes de travailleurs d'une autre époque. Le N&B souligne la tristesse de la situation. Belle réalisation.

You got excellent detail, especially the hard hard soil and the clouds. That stoney soil & the B&W make this a very moving photo. It is a sorrowful photo with which to end your Algeria series. It almost looks like the two men are supervising the old woman chopping with the pickaxe. SAJ, Pat

J'aime beaucoup ce genre de photos, un côté simple, une touche de poésie, un moment de vie, le tout aéré et en douceur.
Le ciel donne une 2ème envergure à la photo, une grosse ambiance.

Fabuleuse, directement dans mes favorites.
Honnetement, je retirerais la legende Algérie 2007.
Sans cela , on pourrait aisément le prendre pour une photo issu des studios Harcourt... tellement elle est grave et pleine d'emotion.
