This is a monument of Amir Abdelkader - Algerian national hero who led a struggle against the French invasion in the XIXth century.

In the left bottom you can see the photo of a present Algerian leader: Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the President since 1999. Now he's trying to be elected for the third time, the results will be known next month (9.04.2009).

BTW, if you are going to visit Algiers, let me inform you, that just in the front of this historical monument you will find fast food restaurant QUICK.
