Photographer’s Note
Bringing his sheep to the market, or maybe counting the sheep he just bought. In any case they will soon become kebab.
From a market street in the Algerian desert town of El Oued, not far from the border with Tunisia.
This was scanned from a Kodachrome slide. For those of you who find technical shortcomings: I guess you're right.

Hello Gert,
what a curious combination of the subject of the photo itself, of its title (which surely makes me recall the famous song) and of the word "Canada" which I saw on one of the bags on the right! I don't know why it strikes me so.
I'm not much concerned about the "shortcomings" of this photo. It makes me think of most important things in life.
Kindest regards,
Elena

Hej Gert,
A very good scan without any technical shortcomings ;) And your composition is also very good. Just the way the outer contours of the sheep continue along the arms of the man, man and sheep form one unit here! What´s in the glass jar and plastic bag on the counter?

Hello Gert
Another slide out of the wardrobe and scanned for all the world to see! The technical shortcomings are not visible! If you are looking for criticism - the man in the shade is a bit grainy but who cares! Excellent scan - and I am right. Tfs, Marlene

A great shot and a terrific scanning job. I like it a lot. I wouldn't have guessed you took this 35 (!) years ago -- I imagine things haven't changed much.

Hej Gert,
Technical shortcomings, where? ;) This is an excellent scan, even more so, when the age of the slide is considered. A good composition and an interesting and attractive daily life shot from that country 34 years ago. Well done!

Hi Gert,
Final countdown - it was eleven years later... Beautiful scene of everyday life in Algeria. I find no shortcomings - I like the strong colours, interesting composition, the view of the shepherd and the man sitting behind.
Warm regards

Due to the scanning the details are little disturbed and damaged but this is very peaceful and has good atmosphere.
I can imagine this world in my mind.
