Photographer’s Note
To escape slave traders, people buillt a city on the lake at Ganvie; the water became the protective fortress wall. It is difficult to sneak up on a town on water. To the Tofinu people, "Ganvie" translates to "those who found peace at last." Some call it the African "Venice"-- but there are NO streets of pavement.
