Photographer’s Note
This is from a market place in Abomey city in southern Benin, about 100 km from the Atlantic coast. I spent just over a week in this interesting little country towards the end of a long journey through West Africa in 1981-82. In those days the military regime had imported Marxism-Leninism as the official state ideology, but beneath the surface African traditions were firmly rooted. Today Benin has converted to western democracy and is doing it quite well.

Hi Gert
Great bit of documentary photography. A market full of life. There is so much going on here. Good work.

Hej Gert,
Gott om detaljer i den här bilden, nästan så att man får svårt att se vad den föreställer. Bra färger och bra scan.

Hej Gert,
A bit hard to see the centerpoint of the motive here. It is a cluster of people but difficult to focus on the separate details. Colours are good and plenty!

Hello Gert
There seems to be much wheeling and dealing going on here. I like how you have filled the frame. TFS, Marlene
