Kids from Goulfey Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is Goulfey, a nice and calm village from the North Cameroon, close to the Chad lake. This little town is one of the northerst ones in Cameroon and is known for its Sao people who erected really interesting houses made out of clay.

In the background, you can see the highest spot in town. Sao people believe this used to be a protected spot where the Giant Sao would leave their children when living the villages few days. From their hand, they would pick and drop each child on the top of this roof which is about 10m high. The stairs are said to have been built recently to allow normal people to reach the roof now the Giants are not existing anymore...

The city was calm under the harsh sun, but also full of burst of laughs from the children around. We also could hear the little voices of those at school nearby repeating their coranic lessons.

Very amazing picture. It's a pity, the contrast is very stong, and the chidren are dark : A flash light would have been usefull, but it remains a very good and spontaneous photo.

Hallo Steven!
Very good photo of kids daily life in Cameroon. Kids are just dark by the nature and i sort of dissagree with "Modeste", who also comment on your photo. Flash wouldn't help this capture.

Photographie précieuse qui nous démontre qu'elle peut être heureux avec très peu de choses. Les faces des enfants irradient bonheur et curiosité, la photo fait voir que les enfants sont surpris de verte. D'autre part, mo'attirent l'attention les constructions, étant tellement différents de des le nôtre quant à manière et des matériels, sont très intégrés dans le milieu. Techniquement, la photo est parfaite. Félicitations par cette photo admirable.

vraiment sympa cette photo steven! les couleurs de l'afrique, cette chaleur et l'enthousiasme des enfants, des sourires omnipresents sur leurs visages, bref l'drique telle que je l'aime! beau cadrage;-)
