Photographer’s Note

We were in Ngoketunjia Division of Cameroon, in the North West Province to do some micro-funding projects. We met the local tribal leaders, called Fons, and one of them, the Fon of Babungo, invited us to a ceremony marking the death of an important traditional healer. He asked us, with a smile, "You aren't afraid of a little gunfire, are you?" When we got there, we understood what he meant. All the local people were there along with a hundred dancers and ju-jus. There was dancing and drumming and, as suggested, a lot of gunfire. Many of the men brought with them rifles and muskets and there was near constant shooting into the air. Sometimes at uncomfortably low angles. It was an amazing experience. In two days there I think I shot 800 photos.
