Photographer’s Note

...boredom, waiting, watching the world go by or just showing off the pink rubber sandals...I really don't know what's going through this girls mind. I can tell you she was wide-eyed and ready to meet the world though, a Cameroon ambassador with all the skills to sweet talk anyone from anywhere that comes her way.

This was taken outside of N'Gaoundere on the day we drove up from Foumban. Bad roads, great scenery and spectacular people. Cameroon is a gem of a country, one of my favorites of the countries I've been to in west africa. It sort of grows on you and doesn't let go. It has it all from desert to beautiful beaches, mountains to rain forest, big bustling cities to small mud hut villages. Diversity everywhere and a people willing to share it with you.

Hi, John. A nice portrait of this young lady who already has a terrifying glance. The pot she's holding against her mouth gives her an air of innocence which suits the picture well but is not really her nature, I think. A good off-centerd composition with a wall that brings out the main subject well. I think the pink sandals are a very interesting feature in the image. Maybe some sharpening would have made the photo better on the screen.

I love this photo, a touching and amusing portrait. The background is perfect for this girl, but the sandals are just so wrong! Couldn't you ask her to take them off? ;-)
(On the other hand, they really make you look).

Sharp enough for my liking and, I guess, this is a photo of reality, of what was in front of you, so there's no need to ask the little girl to conform to remove her sandals - if that's what she wears.
Good colours and compisition - good shot.

I like this portrait , especially how it is composed and I also like your note about africa.. Beautiful shot. She is carefully watching the camera like if it was normal to be pictured, very relaxed. Geraldine

Hi John,
excellent, simply excellent. From the colours to the perfect background to the encouraging note. Of course the best is the natural looking portrait, making feel the personality of the girl.

PS I read the other notes about the pink sandals..the colours remind me of a sofa series of B&B Italia, they payed the best designers of the world to create pink-red and pink-orange combinations.

John,
are you truing to compensate your 6 months abscence from TE by posting now almsot daily a gem? Go slow! Let us get the real feeling for each post. Don't post more than 1-3 shots per week. Let each of your new art work sink in slooooowly. This shots are to good to be lost in the huge daily quantity of mediocre shots here at TE.
Take for example this present post. This is friggin good. A real piece of art with so much meaning and expression! I'm sure that you could fill pages of text around this single shot.
Two things on this shot: First, the little green leave at the right lower corner is magnificent. Second, the sharpness could be better.

Hi John,

I'm not sure it will be boredom. Boredom arises not for a lack of things to do but the inability to latch onto any specific activity.
This girl perheps looks a bit reserved towards a stranger with a big camera. Dare to go through your knees!! You're already scary enough to the little girl without being 1m80 ;-). I'm joking John. But a nice, intimate shot - though the PoV could have been slightly lower. And no, to me it's not boredom. Maybe a reserved curiosity.
