Photographer’s Note

Just to remember the Rwanda genocide in 1994 which resulted in approximately 1,500,000 deaths and 2 million refugees, about 100,000 orphans or unaccompanied children.

This picture was taken at the Amani orphanage with about 5,000 children.

Far from being resolved the conflict in the central African region, continues today the refugees drama...

In this picture no "eye contact" nor photographic quality.

It is just another testimony of life of refugees around the world.

In terms of photography, it's far from ideal - unsharp, not the best quality of scan, strange colours...

But about the content : we need to see such photos, they are important testimonies. This one dates from 1994 but what's happening today in east Congo sounds equally tragic.

Like in other African countries, the richness of the soil is a curse, normal citizens never get anything out of it and cannot even cultivate their land in peace with the militias roaming around.

Welcome back to TE (after more than one month), please post more photos here where we prefer not to hear about these boring stories of fake accounts. And it would be great if someone could explain you how to present better your precious photos !

É muito triste ver a desgraça que vai pelo continente africano desde há muitos anos. A tua fotografia choca mas também é necessária pois a realidade deste mundo não é só com paisagens e cores bonitas. Bem hajas pela tua coragem em mostrares estas imagens. Neste caso, a qualidade fica par último lugar, pois não creio que alguém pense nisso no momento do disparo.

Tenho seguido a tua saga do TL e a do Polonaise no TE. Só lamento que os administradores do TE não tenham a coragem de fazer a justiça que deveria já ter sido feita. Quanto a mim, agora é só uma questão de ignorar a estupidez de alguns e seguir em frente com o bom trabalho que vocês produzem. Vamos a isso!

Neste início de ano, desejo-te os meus votos de saúde, felicidades e prosperidade em 2009. E venham daí mais fotos dos teus valiosos arquivos.

Olá José,
Mais uma foto que diz tudo sem palavras.
Impressionante também a foto ser de 1994 e a tragédia continuar em 2009, mas agora praticamente não se ouve falar do Congo.
