Photographer’s Note

Well friends I start with a scanned photo I took in the refugee field of Kibumba, Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo, border with the Rwanda, July 94, about 350.000 esteem people. North of Lake Kivu, at the boarder with Rwanda, after the Rwanda genocide. At the time 1, 5 million dead and 2 million refugees, 100.000 children orphan or abandoned.
Because the story is being repeated, again and again, everyday, in Sudan, in Chad, Kenya, and many more countries, some reflection about all this violence must be done.
Sibikino it is the Kinyrwandy name of a boy I knew in the Rwanda in 1996 and that only means: do not play with me. This boy of the photo is a refugee of 1994.

Hi Jose,
disaster is written in the eyes of this child. Very sad things happens all over the Africa, I listen to BBC everyday, I really hope it will change.

My mood was bad I am sorry that they are people evils. Wars,and it would be necessary to live it in peace instead of weapons. Great shot, and good job.

thank you for giving us another point of view of what is "learning about the world through photoography". Your serie about DRC is very moving, very disturbing too. I wonder what's the life of that boy 14 years after...
