Light tower at the entrance of the harbour of Abidjan
Abidjan is the economic and former official capital of Côte d'Ivoire (the current capital is Yamoussoukro). It is the largest city in the nation, and the second largest French speaking city in the world. It has, according to the authorities of the country in 2006, 5,068,858 inhabitants in the municipal area inhabitants and 3,796,677 people in the city. Only Lagos, the former capital of Nigeria has a larger number of inhabitants in this region. Considered a cultural hub of West Africa or Africa, Abidjan in the 21st century is characterized by high industrialization and urbanization. The city stands in Ébrié Lagoon on several converging peninsulas and islands, connected by bridges.
The city grew after the construction of a new wharf in 1931 and its designation as the capital of the then French colony in 1933. The completion of the Vridi Canal in 1951 enabled it to become an important sea port. In 1983, Yamoussoukro was designated as the nation's capital, but most government offices and foreign embassies are still in Abidjan.

Hello Achim,
An excellent composition with a very good contrast between the lonely lighthouse in the FG on the left and the "festival' of vertical elements in the BG. An excellent idea.
Best regards,

Hello Achim,
A fine composition of this rather industrial landscape. The sombre light and tones fit the mood perfectly. Very good sharpness.

Hi Achim
I like the elongated 's' shaped formed by the sweeping curve of the rock groyne and sheltered cove. Good colour & sharpness. Tfs!

Hello Achim.
I found your note very interesting indeed. The photo is most impressive in its combination of nature and industry under a drab sky. The shoreline and the sand make a good colour contrast, and the detail is sharply presented. I wonder where you were placed to get this view of the scene; perhaps a tower on the other side of the entrance?
Regards,
Andrew

Hi Achim,
The sinuous line of the beach is an asset to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the industrial area of Abidjan. The prsence of the person on the beach has an effect of scale. The cloudy sky is giving a good contrast to the colors. have a nice day.

Superb combination between FG and the industrial landscape in the background. The pier has a wonderful dynamic shape - as if it was a tail of the lighthouse that curled itself to get entirely in the photo.
best wishes,

Hello Achim,
Very well composed picture. Beautiful with the long curve of the beach and the smaller one of the road from the lighttower to the end of the little peninsule.
Enormous contrast between the long sandy beach and the industrial part of the town behind it.
Very good note too.
Best regards, Paul

Be proud of this picture, Achim. The image is lovely, even without romantic elements. Atmosphere is great. Good lesson for me of making the photos. Your Canon is only one element of this result.

Hi Achim,
This industrial background creates an effect of surrealism in the image. I like much your treatment of the photograph and this strong contrast with the color of sand. The foreground, with in particular the headlight, gives a good depth to the image. Original and interesting photograph, thank you Achim.
With all my friendships and a very good evening,
Jean-Charles

Hallo Achim
I would have easily beleive of a distant rocket launching area!!
So many high stacks, compared to the small lighthouse!
Diffused low sun depicts pleasing shapes on jetee as well as on near water.
