Just offshore from Egypt this medieval Crusader fort was built in the Gulf of Aqaba (Red Sea) to protect pilgrims travelling between St Catherine's Monastery in Sinai and Jerusalem. It was later captured by Saladin but abandoned after about 80 years.

Bonjour, cher Chris,
Merci pour cette composition très intéressante. Je ne connaissais pas du tout l'existence de cet îlot, comme quoi, TE est bien utile pour le savoir.

Good capture of this island fortress. Like Philippe, this is an area of the world completely unknown to me. I like the layered effect in this nicely illuminated composition. Also, the warm/cool tonal contrasts.

Years ago we circled this island with a boat, Chris, it has an awesome view from seaside.
We used to call this simply "Corals-island", as its underwater riff sights is even more attractive, even stunning.
Fine from the road above.
*** Are you in Israel now?

From the thumbnail, the fort was indecipherable from the rocky island. Full size, it takes on the appearance of the triangular, back scales of a crocodile!
It's a great place to have a fort, seeming easy to protect and to act as a refuge.
Your photograph has a great sense of depth, especially with the misty b/g and sshows the details well.
My warm regards,

I've visited this place in 1979. The area was completely deserted then with no buildings nearby.
I believe I see a small marina here. Or is it a swimming pool?
The battlements of the crusador fort stand out nicely against the sea while the water between the island and the mainland has a marvelous colour.
In the surroundings there was also a very beautiful bay that was called the 'fjord'. Also completely deserted in that time. Have you been there?
Best regards, Paul

La distance entre la rive et l'horizon donne de la profondeur à la composition. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails de l'île du pharaon. La qualité de la lumière embellit les couleurs de l'image. Bonne journée.

I just love the contrast of the blue water and the yellowish sand and rocks. Also the fortress on this small island looks great against the hazy background and the calm sea. Great photo.

A serene image with the refreshing waters and beautifully preserved castle. It's a scene I am seeing for the first time. I appreciate the informative note.
