Photographer's Note

Also known as the Temple of Edfu, it was built between 237 BC & 57 BC, during the 'Ptolemaic' period, when Egypt was ruled by Greek royal families until 30 BC. Then the Romans took over, following the demise of Cleopatra. This temple is on the west bank of the Nile and most upriver cruises stop here for a few hours.

Two statues of Horus (the hawk) adorn the front entrance of the temple.
