[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
The White Desert, located slightly west of the center of Egypt, is one of the driest places on Earth, but 40-50 million years ago it was at the bottom of the ocean. A large amount of calcium carbonate (essentially chalk) was then deposited. Now it has eroded into strange and eerie landforms, both low ones like in the foreground (about half a meter high) and higher ones in the distance (8-10 m high, 25-30 feet.)

Hallo Ken!
An amazing and terrifying scenery - and at the same time a beautfiul one. You managed the difficult light here very well!
Thanks for the interesting comment!
Greetings from Germany - and have a nice weekend!
Frank

Ken: a stunning landscape - of course, it's a winner - and your note explicates the enigma... c

Hi Ken,
The effect when discovering the image makes me think of snow fallen onto the dunes, amazing landscape and luminous image, the formations in the distance seem to be a good photo opportunity as well.
Have a nice day JY

Hello Ken,
A very good composition. Really beautiful with the two colours of this desert.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Ken
Amazing scene - I have never seen photos of this location before and so your notes are very informative. Good light and pov, Marlene

Hi Ken - unusual sight of this weird place, well presented in your photo, good light too... regards, Daniel

Hola Ken:

Es un impresionante este desierto del Sahara, con esas tonalidades por la acumulación de calcium carbonete, el contraste entre la arena y esa acumulación es muy interesante con una profundida en la foto realmente buena, haces un buen trabajo.

Un saludo,
Elena

welcomed contribution to this location as there is not so much photos of this surprising landscape on TE, what a fantastic (in all of its meanings) view !
well balanced, and nice frame
regards
jo

Hi Ken,
A most unusual yet very striking image with colors contrasts and eye catching shapes. Well done and TFS. Gerald

Snow and the Sahara :) but indeed it looks like you had a snow storm overnight and that it left some white in the desert. I like the combination of the sandy color of the Sahara and this white stuff, they give an interesting mix to me. Good that you left some sky but not too much but rather let us see what "grows" out here. Impressive indeed. Enjoy your weekend ... Barbara.

Hi Ken,

What a fantastic landscape, really strange! The chalk formtions on th bg are very interesting, like sculptures.

Regards,

Flavia

But what a wonderful pic, Ken! And SO strange... I was to Greenland, and your White Desert looks like Greenland in Sommer. And than: the reliefs on the back are...enchanted; I can see a big, big dog, two strong warriors and a beautiful castle. The owner is a fairy...or not? Ehi...sorry...I am a writer and I write fairy tales too...So, sometime, often, my fantasy goes and runs, runs, runs! Ciao,
Anna Paola

Hi Ken,
what a landscape, unreal..
nice soft light you captured here, compliments, Chris
