Photographer’s Note

An amazing church and place. We were there the day before Christmas and it was an amzing site with a steady stream of pilgrims walking up to the church. The local women spurring us on and making fun of me because one of the women of our group was beating me up the hill. It was quite a climb and took about an hour and a half to make it from the "Traffic Jam" to the church.

The church is actually built in a cave about halfway up the valley below Lalibela. This woman was at the front door, begging, yet not begging but just thanking people for any money they could spare. She did not ask for money, but relied on the kindness of others to just help out.

I tried a few different color cast and brightness versions but I sort of liked this one, a bit dark with probably a bit of bluish cast to it. It really conveys the sense of the mood there. The church is actually located in a cave and in certain areas it almost pitch black.
