Photographer’s Note
After walking up the steep hill from the stelae field in Axum you find yourself in beautiful countryside. We paused briefly in our walk to say hello to this chap, who we'd met the day before while visiting the tomb of King Caleb.
Taken early in the morning - hence the scarf he was wearing against the morning chill.

Hi Ben,
A very nice and sharp black and white you got here! The 50mm is a very nice prime lense for portraits. I use the same combination as you have done here. I do like the light fall-off to the sides here. Post processed I assume, since I don't get that kind of fall-off with my 50mm 1.4 and D700 ;-). Nice one!
Greetings, Dennis

i can see that you have been developing a specific style for portraits, ben... this one i do love for the shallow dof and a strong interaction between you and the model who seems to be quite pleased to become a model for you...
best, j.

Very powerful portrait, a gentle rendition of his face in a strong contrast part except the face, and the background of brick that tend to spoil the view is also rendered beautifully.

This one is my favourite of your recent portrait shots. Very sharp, with all the detail visible, and his expressive eyes add to the attraction of the photo (but there seems to be a slight loss of focus in the area around the mouth). Great background blur.
Cheers
Ryno
