Photographer’s Note
Next to the Cathedral of Tsion Mayram (St Mary of Zion) in Aksum was this man in a deep devotion.
People in the north of Ethiopia are very religeous. There are a lot of very old churches, monasteries and cathedrals. Aksum is the most ancient of Ethiopian capitals, the holiest city of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, does boast a wealth of quite startling antiquities and beautiful stelae fields.
This photo is original, only sharpened a bit.

Beautifully photographed. You have succeeded in capturing the story in the man's eyes.
Cheers!

Hallo Peter,
Ik hou heel veel van je portret werk. En dit geval is er zo veel fijn detailwerk zoals sij vingernagels met het rode erop. Mooie strake kadering en ook natuurlijke kleuren.
Groetjes

You say you are a self-taught amateur..well, it is VERY impressive to say the least. You know how to find subjects and how to approach them. We can sense the sensitivity/thoughtfulness of the photographer in each ones you posted so far. It's a reportage, but at the same time, we feel like the subjects are in peace with you.
Here, there are 2 details that catch my eyes. FIrst one is the eyes obviously, perfectly in focus and so expressive. I'd like the eyes to be directed toward the lenses for a more intimate look...
second very interesting detail is the red on the nails.I think that it is a very fine detail. If you know what it means, I'm interested in knowing the signification of this...
I hope you'll go on posting your shots from Ethiopia (and from anywhere else you've been for that matter). Did you go there as a worker? Certainly not as a tourist? You've had too many intimate encounters for it to be tourist shots...
All the best,
Marc
