Photographer’s Note

The smoking house at Tanji, Gambia, along the Atlantic coast. The people smoke Bungafish here.

Nearly a mission impossible to go inside this building - but the lighting was so great for photography. I remember that my eyes were full of tears and I felt to be inside of a chimney. I can't descibe how hot it was here. In addition the smell of the fish at the whole area, not only in the house - everywhere. Really no fun for european noses.

In the WS could see how the fishes are sun-dried before.

Achim this is a very interesting picture. I saw the workshop pictures and they show a process in three frames of how fish is prepared. The light coming through the ceiling is well captured here; something i am never able to do in cases like this. Nice work and TFS.

Achim, c'est une excellente photo-reportage qui pourrait très bien se trouver dans une revue de géographie. J'aime l'atmosphère enfumée traversée par les rayons de soleil. Excellent travail agrémenté par une note et des photos complémentaires des plus intéressantes.

I cant beleive taht u passed trought inside and smell that fishbreath around :)lol musted be hard job.
As u say yes ray light and compo is great.
Ehh sometimes we have to get mission imposible for photo love.

It's a good shot Achim, I like the rays of light beaming down on the fish. Regarding the smell affecting the whole area, actually I've experienced that in the UK too, in a town that specialises in making kippers - a type of smoked herring which is poplular here.

Hallo Achim,
The sunbeams entering diagonal they create a great visual effect to the photo, and give her a mysterious and agreeable lighting simultaneously.
Good work with the setting and the management of the light.
The note and the WS are very informative and help us to understand these traditions of other cultures.
I understand that it was difficult to take these photos as the strong smell that the fish had to detach while it dries off to the Sun.
