This picture shows some very concentrated fisher boys in the Guinean town of Dubreka. Fish is an important food source all over west Africa and Dubreka is no exception. Fishing has long traditions and in Dubreka you will see numerous fishermen repairing their boats and nets preparing for the next catch. Normally the fish are caught in the ocean and in rivers from small pirogues like the one seen in the background using nets. These boys went for the easy choice, though I am not too sure they will come home with the big catch. I was torn as to whether I should call on their attention to get a shot with the wonderful smiles that are given very generously by children in west Africa. I chickened out though since elders (of which there were plenty just next to me) don't share the same appreciation for photography. I managed to get a discreet shot of them though two of the boys peeped up just as I shot. It was an overcast day, so the light didn't offer much effect to the picture apart from the reflection of the boat. As such I don't think it's a particularly pretty picture due to the dull lights. But I figured that there are so few pictures from Guinea that I owed it to the country, besides, the picture represents a very big part of daily life here.
Dubreka is a one hour drive from the national capital, Conakry, and is a good place to go hiking in the surrounding mountains, or to take a swim in the nearby waterfalls during the rainy season.

Hello Troels,
There are several things about this photo that I like. First, I like the way the steps lead us down to where the boys are fishing. I like the way two of them are looking back at you, and how their colorful shirts jump out against the water. I also think the small boat is interesting: it is surprising to see it named the same thing as a large US city!
