Kenya 2005-Inside the Tsavo East.

Tsavo East National Park is one of the oldest and largest parks in Kenya at 11,747 square kilometers. Opened in April of 1948, it is located near the village of Voi in the Taita District of Coast Province. The park is divided into east and west sections by the A109 road and a railway. Named for the Tsavo River, which flows west to east through the national park, it borders the Chyulu Hills National Park, and the Mkomazi Game Reserve in Tanzania.The park can be accessed by three main gates, from Voi through the Manyani gate, from Mombasa through the Bachuma gate or from Malindi through the Sala gate. There are also several airstrips in the park that allow chartered light planes. Inside the park, the Athi and Tsavo rivers converge to form the Galana River. Most of the park consists of semi-arid grasslands and savanna. It is considered one of the world's biodiversity strongholds, and its popularity is mostly due to the vast amounts of diverse wildlife that can be seen. The park also offers camping and several geographical points of interest.
The slightly larger Tsavo East is generally flat, with dry plains across which the Galana River flows. Other features include the Yatta Plateau and Lugards Falls. Wildlife in Tsavo East includes black rhinos and hirola antelopes.
Tsavo West National Park is more mountainous and wetter than its counterpart, with swamps, Lake Jipe and the Mzima Springs. It is known for birdlife and for its large mammals. It is also home to a black rhino sanctuary.

Con una superficie complessiva di 21.812 km², lo Tsavo è il più grande parco naturale del paese. Appartiene a un sistema di parchi adiacenti che include il parco nazionale delle colline Chyulu, la riserva naturale di Ngai Ndethia e la riserva naturale di South Kitui, per una superficie totale complessiva di oltre 23.000 km² (pari all'intera Toscana). Il parco fu aperto nell'aprile del 1948 e nel maggio dello stesso anno venne suddiviso, ai fini amministrativi, in parco nazionale dello Tsavo orientale (Tsavo East National Park) e parco nazionale dello Tsavo occidentale (Tsavo West National Park). I due parchi sono divisi dalla strada che va da Nairobi a Mombasa (la A109) e dalla ferrovia, parte della Uganda Railway costruita dagli inglesi alla fine del XIX secolo. Entrambi sono amministrati dal Kenya Wildlife Service. Il centro abitato più vicino è il villaggio di Voi, nel distretto di Taita, Coast Province. Il parco prende il nome dal fiume Tsavo, che lo attraversa.Il parco include diversi tipi di habitat. Tsavo est è principalmente pianeggiante, con grandi aree di savana attraversate dal fiume Galana, unione dello Tsavo e dell'Athi. Il rilievo principale è l'altopiano di Yatta, che con i suoi 190 km di lunghezza rappresenta la più grande superficie lavica del mondo; è stato creato dall'attività del vulcano Ol Doinyo Sabuk. Tsavo ovest è più montagnoso e umido, con pianure alluvionali e un lago, il Jipe. Le Cascate Lugard sono in effetti un sistema di rapide formate dal Galana, e prendono il nome da Frederick Lugard.
A causa della sua eccezionale biodiversità, il parco viene considerato una delle riserve naturali più preziose del mondo, e costituisca una delle maggiori attrazioni turistiche del Kenya. Due terzi della parte orientale (Tsavo est) sono chiusi ai turisti e riservati alla ricerca scientifica.

I have a dream of one day going to visit Kenya.This is a very spectacular and exciting shot. Very beautiful savannah with great colour of the sky, good composition that he is taken at the good time and the moment.

Good composition with lots of room for that wide sky above and great positioning below of the zebras and trees.

On the other hand, for my taste this is way too saturated. I really would have prefered more subtle colours. (And I hope you don't mind me saying so.)

you are right. We had the same idea at the time of the shooting and it was a nice coinsidence to post together :)) But here you present natural colors and bright and the clouds formation is more beautiful. Actually I think I went to far in the post-processing :)) Composition is really great. I like this!

E tu ti tenevi nel cassetto foto come questa da 4 anni? Sciagurato! L'avrai anche migliorata in PP ma resta senpre uno scatto favoloso, di quelli che ti fanno venire il mal d'Africa. Cielo infinito sopra queste zebre (meno male che non si vede tanto il bianconero, per la gioia milanista) ;-)

Ciao Luciano. Un cielo così - mamma mia che spettacolo!- meritava tutti i 7/8 che gli hai dedicato. Del resto anche la fettina di prato - verde forte per un altrettanto contrasto- ha da dire la sua con l'inserimento delle zebre e degli alberi.

Ciao Luciano, So you were also in Kenya... I saw many places but not black Africa yet. Beautiful photo. But what amazes me really are the animals here. Have you any close ups? It seems to me that they are not zebras. They are okapis! Its fantastic, I haven't seen okapi, even in zoo.

Beautiful sky over the savanne. A few zebra's in the almost empty land except for a few trees.
Good colors and compo with the huge sky.
Too bad some of the clouds are over exposed although I understand that is difficult to avoid with the strong light.

the unconventional composition with 4/5 part sky is absolutely justified by the nice clouds and makes the picture far more interesting than a more balanced compositon. Also the technical perfectness has to be praised.

Ben venga l'archivio se le immagini sono come questa, solare, pulita, con magnifici colori. Non sempre si riesce a riprendere gli animali da vicino, ma hai già fatto tanto, e la composizione semplice con tanto spazio per un magnifico cielo ti premia.
