Photographer's Note

These are ancient Tellem culture dwellings in the Bandiagara escarpment in Mali. Behind these buildings, like in the old Anasazi culture in New Mexico, you may find burial grounds on the steep walls of the Bandiagara fault. When I first visited Mesa Verde and the Anasazi ghost towns I was amazed; Canyon de Chelly is also an incredible place, but those are uninhabited since long before white man arrived on the scene. The Dogon Country, on the other hand, is still bustling with people, tradition is still alive (though declining) and you can walk along buildings still alive with people.
This time I was really flabbergasted, speechless...
