Photographer’s Note
I'll keep on going on telling you the story of my trip to Mauritania.
-.-
Fast stop in Atar
to supply our kitchen
with some food.
Little time to wander around
but the sun
is finally a little hot
and it's nice to interact
with local people
who is eager to show their hospitality
offering some tea
or a place in the shadow to chat
in a relaxed peaceful mood.

Hello Luca,
This is a magnificent portrait! The way the man is posing, the look of his eyes, the colours, the lighting, the bread in the background – everything is just great.
Thanks for sharing.

Hello Luca,
This is one of the finest portraits I've seen on Trekearth. The off-centered composition, his confident gaze, the light and shadows, and the colors and definition — all collaborate to make this a spectacular photograph. In the spirit of Trekearth, I can make one suggestion, and it is just a thought. It was discovered by the British-born psychologist, art connoisseur, Christopher Tyler, that in the greatest portraits painted by the likes of Leonardo, Rembrandt and even Picasso (e.g. the Mona Lisa, the self-portraits by Rembrandt, and the portraits of Dora Maar by Picasso), that the vertical center-line (that divides a frame equally) passes through one eye. I wrote a book called "Math and the Mona Lisa" (Smithsonian, 2004) in which mentioned the in one chapter. I am now finishing a second book, "Leonardo's Universe," (National Geographic, May 2008) and I will cite that principle. In short, if you could re-crop this extraordinary image so that one eye (here of course the left eye) should be very close to the centerline. However, this is just a suggestion, as the photograph is really one of the finest portraits as it is.
Warm regards from Virginia, USA, and Season's Greetings,
Bulent

Merry Xmas, Luca. Superb portrait you are presenting today. The pose follows a very nice diagonal line that combined with the light creates a great picture... one for the classics IMHO.
Cheers,
Enrique

Superb, Luca! What a peaceful portrait! Peaceful is really the word that came to my mind in looking at this fine portrait. Sure, the man is a great character, with very calm features (his eyes and the light smile). But what add to that feeling of peacefulness is the very beautiful colors of your photo. Though I am sure this portrait would work well in B&W, I find the colors so pleasing, especially the blue tone, that it would be a loss without them.
Not one pixels is out of place in your excellent photo. Not one pixel is missing. I like the bread in the background, the old wooden desk... And also that hand, with one finger pointing...
Truly great! A photo you can be proud of!

Hi, Luca. This is a very nice portrait. The man has a very beautiful face and I like how he is staring at the lens in an almost professional way. His pose is also very good, making a nice diagonal line in the image. Maybe I would like to see a little more contrast here and by looking at the histogram, I realized it could be done just by moving the right cursor to the centre. I'll post the result as a WS. Tell me what you think.

Ciao Luca,
Congratulazioni.

Hello Luca,
I told you before, you need a high-end camera with the best glass that is around. If you can make such great pictures like this one your work will improve even more on the final output. And seeing this one, i don't want to know how it looks with a 85m/m portrait lens on a D3...must be out of this world with your eye, your technique en your skills.
Perfect my friend, a wonderful portait taken in superb light...i love it.
Biggest compliment i can give is that it goes in my fav and that i am jealous that i don't own this picture..!!!
Stunning...

Hi Luca,
Wow, this is a beauty in itself again. The soft darkness behind the man, the little light hitting the blue. Very nice!
