Follow to my yesterday post

Bordering the dunes of erg Amatlich
We stopped along the way
In tiny nomadic settlements
With the chance to sip
Strenghten mint tea
And meet the people
Starting to feel the mood of the country.
Womens are proud and wear colourful clothes
What a luck with such a blue sky finally!

Even if it’s not the event, regarding my image, I want to share a note about women in Mauritania:

Obesity is so revered among Mauritania's white Moor Arab population that the young girls are sometimes force-fed to obtain a weight the government has described as "life-threatening".

A generation ago, over a third of women in the country were force-fed as children - Mauritania is one of the few African countries where, on average, girls receive more food than boys.
Now only around one in 10 girls are treated this way. The treatment has its roots in fat being seen as a sign of wealth - if a girl was thin she was considered poor, and would not be respected.

Hi Luca, I can not believe that this shot has not received any comments so far. This absolutely is a world class shot - to me anyway. I love the originality of your composition a lot. It simply is beautiful; the colours bursting into that wonderful blue sky is exquisite. I can feel the soft touch of the breeze that drapes the woman's clothes so beautifully. I love it Luca! A most sad sideline in your note though, but very interesting; I didn't know this. So thank you for sharing that. Sabine

Hello Luca,

Very nice, I like a lot the idea of movement given by the clothes and the opposition of colors between the yellow and the blue.
A lot of life on this photo,

Yves.

Looks like you had such a great trip there, so many occasions to catch beauty of life and also some more dark side (your note). Amazing.

Hi Luca,

A very interesting note with a wonderfully saturated photograph. Very nice. It's not often that I comment on two shots of the same photographer after one another, but these two are surely worth it!! Nice.

Greetings, Dennis

hello luca,

nice to share with you and sevy some images from mauritania. Your comment about women treatment is very sad but also very true. Actually, I was told by the youngest ones (see my post) that this was changing and I hope so. Also, we met few momen, very active and modern, very aware of politics in occident, working as real business women. Wearing the Melhafa does not seem in contradiction with any independence or modernity for at least few of them.

Your picture is very nice, for the wind blowing in the Melhafa. Thanks for sharing. Geraldine

Ciao Luca!
fantastica questa foto! Il viso si perde in una meravigliosa composizione di colori - il tessuto è reso benissimo e dà il senso del movimento.
Complimenti! e un caloroso saluto

Livia
