a try : the real "pro" photographer
 |
|
| [Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe |
- About the quality of the photo : there is the risk of looking ridiculous here... If this can make you smile a bit, I'll be happy... please, don't look too carefully at my 2nd B&W attempt on this site ! - I just wanted to share with you this image and don't know anything about B&W, but the colours in the makeshift restaurant were too horrible and the face specially too dark and redish, so I had to make lots of adjustments, hence the grains in many areas. I know, this is a terrible conversion and I should learn... Sorry and your advice is welcome !
- About the man : this is one of the two real "pros" that I met during my last travel, but unlike the other one, apparently he prefers to take photos out of his studio, his speciality being taking local or foreign tourists on top of hired horses or camels on the beach.
Out of season and therefore, looking for another kind of subject, he was there trying to sell photos of the peasants at the weekly market ; we met in a makeshift restaurant, shared tea together and later on, he wanted to see how and what I was shooting, so followed me for a while but we were attracting too much attention ; he insisted that I should phone him but his French was very limited and my Arab language being virtually inexistant, and having to leave soon after, things remained there.
Here is a close up on his old equipment (= detail of the same image, ... in colours ! ;) |

Hi Cath,
You did make me smile with this shot! He looks quite a "pro" with his big flash and his expressions are just fantastic.
Awesome work!
Regards,
Shaeri
I'm not good at all with pp and even worst with b&w, but I wonder if you used the gradiant map in PhotoShop instead of just desaturate the image. I love the low POV and composition, but I feel that some more contrasts would enhance the image. Allways a pleasure to read your personal notes. Incredible what they still use there.
