Majorelle Garden and Museum of Islamic Art

The Majorelle Garden (Arabic: حديقة ماجوريل) is a botanical garden in Marrakech, Morocco. It was designed by theFrench artist Jacques Majorelle in 1924, during the colonial period when Morocco was occupied by France. Though Majorelle's art is largely forgotten today -- his oeuvre was made up of gentlemanly orientalist watercolors -- the garden he created is his creative masterpiece. A special shade of bold cobalt blue which he used extensively in the garden and its buildings is named after him, Majorelle bleu.

The garden has been open to the public since 1947. Since 1980 the garden has been owned by Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Bergé.

The garden also houses the Islamic Art Museum of Marrakech, whose collection includes North African textiles from Saint-Laurent's personal collection as well as ceramics, jewelry, and paintings by Majorelle.

The garden hosts more than 15 bird species, which can be found only in the area of North Africa.

Ο κήπος Majorelle (Arabic: حديقة ماجوريل) είναι ένας βοτανικός κήπος στο Μαρακές, Μαρόκο. Σχεδιάστηκε από τον απόδημο Γάλλο καλλιτέχνη Ζακ Majorelle το 1924, κατά τη διάρκεια της αποικιακής περιόδου, όταν καταλήφθηκε το Μαρόκο από τη Γαλλία, αν και η τέχνη Majorelle είναι κατά ένα μεγάλο μέρος ξεχασμένη σήμερα. Το σύνολο του έργου του αποτελούταν από ευγενή νεροχρώματα της Ασίας,ο δε κήπος που έφτιαξε, είναι η πλέον δημιουργική κατασκευή του. Μια ειδική απόχρωση του μπλε κοβαλτίου που χρησιμοποίησε εκτενώς στον κήπο και τα κτήρια ονομάσθηκε μετά τον θάνατό του Majorelle bleu.

Ο κήπος είναι ανοικτός στο κοινό από το 1947. Από το 1980 ο κήπος ανήκει στον σχεδιαστή μόδας,Yves Saint-Laurent και τον Pierre Bergί. Ο κήπος στεγάζει επίσης το Ισλαμικό μουσείο τέχνης του Μαρακές,του οποίου συλλογή περιλαμβάνει Βόρειο αφρικανικά κλωστοϋφαντουργικά προϊόντα, από την προσωπική συλλογή του Yves Saint-Laurent καθώς επίσης και τα κεραμικά, το κόσμημα, και τα έργα ζωγραφικής από τον Majorelle.

Ο κήπος φιλοξενεί περισσότερα από 15 είδη πουλιών, τα οποία μπορούν να βρεθούν μόνο στην περιοχή της βόρειας Αφρικής.

Καλημερα Δάνο,
Πραγματικα φωτογραφησες αυτον το απιθανο κηπο με το καλυτερο τροπο.Οι κακτοι αποτελουν απο μονοι τους φωτογραφικο θεμα ετσι που κατανεμονται στο χωρο.Ο μπλε ουρανος,το κτιριο και οι περαστικοι συμπληρωνουν πολυ ωραια την συνθεση.Βρισκω και το σημειωμα πολυ ενδιαφερον καθως αναφερεις πραγματα αγνωστα σε εμενα.

Πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα φωτογραφία. Περιέχει όλα όσα αναφέρεις στο σημείωμά σου. Η απόδοση είναι αρκετά καλή σε λεπτομέρειες και χρώμα.
Εάν ήταν εδώ κοντά ο κήπος και το μουσείο και εννοώ εντός Ελλάδος, θα ήταν ο επόμενος προορισμός για εμένα, μιας και η σύζυγός μου είναι λάτρης των κάκτων και γνωρίζει αρκετά για το είδος αυτό.

Καλημέρα Δάνο,

Υπέροχα τα χρώματα του κήπου και τα σχήματα των κάκτων!
Όμως, κατά την ταπεινή μου γνώμη, η δεξιά άκρη της φωτογραφίας "παραφωνεί" και θα 'ταν καλύτερο να την είχες κόψει.

Cactus are fascinating plants to me, and I think you've presented well this botanical garden with the perspective leading nicely the eye to the blue house/palm trees. Was also a good idea to include these people walking under the huge white bougainvillea, adding animation to the scene.

Very nice capture ! Very good pov and nice colors, very well composed.
The blue building at the background is a nice eyecatcher.
By the way, we in Turkey name a flat and thorny type of cactus "kaynana dili" . Translated in english "tongue of mother in law" !!

Another landmark of Marrakech that I have missed... And very presented here. You made a wonderful tidy compo with the cactus, flowers, the blue house and the palm trees against that are so characteristic of the Marrakech skyline. Beautiful colours, excellent sharpness - I guess that the quality of those extraordinary lenses have helped a bit, but we all know that the eye is much more important that the hardware.

Olá Danos, this reminds me a similar garden that I visited in the center of the Mexican city. Love such a vision of tall cactuses spread everywhere. You did a very appealing capture, with great depth, by the way you included these ones in FG. I like to see the people at right and the sight of the atractive architecture in the background, that is almost a continuation of the sky ;-) It's a tight framing but it works very well. Very well done.

Hi Danos, Cacti are my favorite plants believe it or not &, the array of different types here is brilliant, a very exotic photo with the palm in the background &, that rather in your face blue house, however overall the colours are very good &, the people give scale to the high of some of the cactus plants, only one thing, I would like to see a vertical framing, TFS, kind regards Wilson. P.S, I love the cactus with the little blue hat on to the left.

Beautiful place with those strange cactus, I like the unusual intense blue building contrasting with the pale green and the brown of the garden. The line of the fence creates a good DOF and the white dressed visitors add a welcome contrast.

Belle photo de ce magnifique jardin qui attire bien le regard, ce jardin comme je le li est le jardin du musée de l' art Islamique, je peux vous dire que cet art est très jolis, les couleurs superbes et le batiment en arrière plan est de toute beauté. Rien dans cet art Islamic ne prone la violence, cela me donne plutôt l' impression de quiétude, de calme, de prière et de receuillement. The contrast between these big cactuses, the bougainvilleas and the palms with the beautiful architecture of the building of a spectacular blue color, is fantastic and offers us a strong graphism, very agreeably at sight.
