Photographer’s Note

El Bahia Palace in Marrakech, Morocco. This picture is very simple, yet complex at the same time, the more I look at it, the more I can see.

The simplicity is down to just four wall lines, creating the depth of the image and the way the light enters the image invites the viewer to walk in. But the thing I do like most about this scene is the fact that the lightest and the darkest place of the scene are next to each other, creating point where your eyes can settle, point where your eyes are actually drawn to. And the little lamp just under the ceiling and the reflection of the light on the floor…well without it, the picture would be empty.

I told you…simple but complex.

Since I took this image, there is one question at the back of my head that keeps jumping out: what is there…at the end of the hall…and into the door. I never found out, because this hall was closed to public. So the question remains…

Camera: Nikon D200
Lens: Tokina 12-24 mm F4 ATX Pro set at 12mm
Aperture: F5
Shutter Speed: 1/40 sec
ISO: 400
Other: handheld, no filtration, converted to B&W. There wasn’t much colour in the scene, so I opted for B&W conversion.
