Ok, ok, not these 29 palms and probably, not the ones from the song either - just a small oasis in the middle of vast Saharan "sandness" near Merzouga. My northerner's nature found the sight quite surreal and forced me to press the shutter. Hope you like this shadowy refuge too :)

As always your comments and suggestions are highly welcome.

Thank you for your visit.
Chris

PS. the explanation for the presence of palms in the middle of sand-dunes is quite rational though. Sub-terranean water comes quite close to the surface near Merzouga. Unfortunately, the water levels have been dropping for some while now. Sahara is attacking...

PPS. the shot was taken while sitting on a camel and crossing an opposing dune (higher than the palms)... :)

Hi Kristaps, A wonderful photo, the light is excellent & perfect composition, great colour & love the shadows, a beautifully focused shot, kind regards Wilson.

Focused, great colours and composition. I like it.

Bonjour Kristaps,
Très belle composition sur ce petit oasis. La couleur du sable est superbe, une belle lumière et netteté de l'image.
Joli travail.
Bonne soirée

Big orange, maybe it is not natural?

Very unusual sight - green trees in the middle of sand. Low light with long shadows makes the photo even more impressive.

like in the other photo of Sahara you posted a while ago, I like how the footpaths converge at this tiny oasis. it's easy to imagine tired travellers exhausted by the scorshing sun of the desert rejoicing at the sight of at least some shade. nice shot.
best,
K.

A great shot here of these palm trees in the beautiful and stunning sand. Your capture of the colors is just remarkable, and the shadows do indeed lend a wonderful element to the overall shot. And...it looks like the sand is slowly gaining a foothold on the trees, too! Very nicely done!

An excellent, strangely enigmatic picture. The vivid colour of the sand is fantastic, and I like the composition.

Matt

Hola Kristaps,
Me encantan este pequeño oasis en medio del color intenso de esas dunas.
Un encuadre sencillo y muy bonito.

I think that with this one you have achieved a great optical phenomena...excellent place to take up your camera and...click document it for posterity..I wonder which is the aquifer feeding those palms with water.

Hello Kristaps,
You have many wonderful photographs in your gallery and composition is definitely a strong point in all of them. This one particularly appealed to me as a desert lover. The framing of the oasis, including the shadow, by the colorful sand is excellent. Regards,
Hakan

Hi friend,

very interesting shot! It's nice to see those lonely palms and their shadows on the desert sand. It's looks unreal or improbal but there is always a natural explanation as you write. Great work!
Regards,
Carlos

hi kris,
29 palms is in California not Morocco...:-)! golden colors surrounding these (date) palms reminding me of my days with the ministry of health of saudi arabia years back. the footprints so visibly seen added the to this fantastic desert scene.

Hello Kristaps

One of the best camel back shots I have ever seen, I guess it wasn't moving, otherwise it would have been a green and orange smudge. What's not to love about this
