Photographer's Note

-- and one door down.

Taken at an "intersection" in the eastern, upper part of the medina of Chefchaouen. This part of town drifts away from trappings of tourism and you can turn a corner here without finding a shop of lanterns or rugs. People here are a little more friendly too, without the ulterior motive.

Still, this town in the Rif mountians has a local cash crop that doesn't quite "fit" with the traditions found elsewhere in Morocco. The Rif (pronounced "Reef"), and it's crop, sometimes called "reefer" in some circles, is a long standing part of local goings-on.

While the traditional way of life is everywhere here, carried over from the fleeing Moors of Andalusia and transplanted here, it's also not unusual for a character to find you near any corner. Always an offer to help you score a little of the good life.
