Please notice her painstakingly chosen clothes... It was really a thought-provoking experience to meet this poor girl and her family... not knowing our languages we managed to communicate easily ... I wanted to send her the photos but it turned out that they (the whole family) are illiterate... The beauty and mystery of the Berbers, of whom we still know so little, is so fascinating...

From Wikipedia

BERBERS are the indigenous peoples of North Africa west of the Nile Valley. They are discontinuously distributed from the Atlantic to the Siwa oasis, in Egypt, and from the Mediterranean to Niger river. They speak various Berber languages, which together form a branch of the Afroasiatic language family. Between fourteen and twenty-five million Berber-speakers live within this region, most heavily in Morocco and becoming generally scarcer eastward through the rest of the Maghreb and beyond.

Many Berbers call themselves some variant of the word Imazighen (singular Amazigh), meaning "free men".[2][3] This is common in Morocco, but elsewhere within the Berber homeland a local, more particular term, such as Kabyle or Chaoui, is more often used instead.[4]. Historically Berbers have been variously known, for instance as Libyans by the ancient Greeks,[5] as Numidians and Mauri by the Romans, and as Moors by medieval Europeans. The modern English term is a borrowed from Arabic, but the deeper etymology of "Berber" is not certain.

Ewa, you have demonstrated a great piece of portraiture here! The expression on her face is very disturbing.

hello Ewa,
this is a fine portrait. You have captured her look and posture and it exudes dignity. My heart is always touched by people who show dignity despite poverty. Some people are able to rise above their circumstances, look at one of my favourite photographers on site Kajal's pictures from India for example.
best wishes
Bev

Beautiful and tender little girl. Nice portrait

Hi Ewa,

That's a beautiful shot! It's a pitty her feet aren't on the picture... But her look is strong and makes this picture work. You can really see the pain in her eyes. Terrible scene but it results in a well captured picture. Excellent shot!

Greetings from Belgium,
Thomas

Witaj Ewa,
Fascinating portrait! The lighting on this beautiful girl is interesting. I like the tonality that reduced saturation,
Have a nice day, Hisashi
