Remember this one? One of my first uploads here on TE.
The man is Mohammed and after passing by he climbed the hill and came towards me. All these local people come from Merzouga, a very small village near these famous sand dunes. They try to sell you some beautiful stones or inviting you for a camel ride.
I told him straight away that i didn't want to buy anything, but for a nice talk he was more then welcome. We talked about 20 minutes, about his life in the desert how hard it was.
Yes i have send him the picture...

Hi
Very nice portrait with nice color...

Salaam Henk,
I like here the deep blue all around his visage making a sort of frame to differentiate him clearly from the background, I'd have preferred the background color to be the warm sandy one of your previous upload but this one will do as well.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Hi Henk.

This (and the link) are lovely pictures. It's an excellent portrait full of details.

Well done!

Rgs, Oscar

Hi Henk,
Splendid portrait, I like the vivid colours and the superb composition. Clarity and sharpnes is perfect. Suggestive image, Congratulations. Have a nice day
George

Hallo Henk,
a very natural impression in his face, he seems to be relaxed. The blue is a wonderful framing and his skin is with good treextures as the clothing too. It shows that desert must not be hot as he is wearing a lot.
Lieben Gruss, Ulf

Excellent portrait Henk. He looks so alive; almost 3D. He has a natural expression and I love the deep blue of his attire and the way you have captured the folds so well. I'm sure he was pleased to receive this through the post.
Kath

Again an excellent close up composed, nice clear colours and well sharpness. The picture has shown the strong character of this guy. Well done Henk, tfs

Hi Henk,

blue, Blue, BLUE! That is for sure! Haha, 'He climed the hill gets a different meaning if you look at the posting to which you put a link'. That's not just the other side of a hill!

Good shot. Like the detail in the blue dress over the shoulders and the lines in his face. Difficult to estimate how old he is. Could be 35, could be 45.

Greetings, Dennis

Thats sharp..

sharp .. clear.. cropped well and well framed..
congratulation on this picture

Dag Henk,

Hello Henk
Very nice portrait the blue tunic brings stands out against the pale background and helps to bring out details of his face
well done
Regards
Daniel

Your details are so sharp and defined in all your portraits but I really like the textures and contours of his garb. The blues are so vibrant. His eyes are quiet intense yet his somewhat smile seem inviting. Looks like the sun is directly to the right of him so it seems that his face is in complete shadow but there isn't any on his face, how do you do this?

Hi Henk,
I have had to hunt you down..:). I saw this pic in the morn in office and was struck by the vibrant blues of his clothes..different hues and textures of the same color..The best part is the blue attracts you and the face holds you..and tells you everything about the man..an awesome portrait.
Thanks for sharing

Hi Henk,

great blues and textures you captured in this portrait. No strong shadows/highlights: that's what attract me most in this one. Great indeed!

Hola Henk.
Splendid portrait of Mohammed with a strong blue color wearing his finest jellabas, very natural expression with his eyes straight to your camera, very good clear DOF enhancing his figure. Great definition and frame.
Well done, TFS.
Best regards.

Salut Henk,
The portrait is superb, with in particular a great color balance, made by the skin, the blue clothes and the bright BG.
Overall very strong, good job,

Hi Henk,
These blues kicked me out. I like especially these vivid, saturated eye-catching tones. Unfortunately I've never been in Africa, but I hope time will bring it...
IN addition the cleanliness and the natural atmosphere is also an big advantage here.
The linked picture is another great issue...
Congrats and have a nice day!

This blue color all around really makes the picture stand out. A great portrait with plenty of details.

I feel I remember this photo from somewhere... but I just don't know from where. Probably I am confusing it with something else. It's a great portrait. The blue is so blue. And look at the details in his clothing. That start and crescent... His face and expression are cool, but this time what blowns me here his the blueness of his clothing and the detail. Great one Henk!

Fijn weekend,
Bert

Excellent portrait of this villager, Henk. His direct view into the camera is striking and somewhat disarming. The major consideration is skin tone and it does look true and detailed, very nice.

Bonsoir Henk

a natural portrait trés in the colors and the expression of the face, the neutral bottom leaves all the beauty of the blue of the dress well done

Hello Henk!
Brilliant portrait in highest quality. Congratulation.
Greetings from Austria!

Hola Kenk.
Buen trabajo amigo.
Un saludo.

Hello Henk -

Another outstanding image! This is a perfect, IMO, environmental portrait. You have great eye contact with the subject, strong colors, no interfering BG, and good detail throughout the facial area. Those Fuji colors really jump off the screen. Well done! So you just chatted him up for 20-minutes? No demand for baksheesh (money)?

I just showed Joanne, my wife, your two images shown here and she is really impressed. She liked this one but the dune image really elicited a WOW!

Thank you for sharing.

Hi Henk,
A crisp clear portrait of this robust looking fellow, who despite the name and setting somehow has a Westernized visage...The lighting here is exquisite and your cropping tasteful. Very fine work and I am sure he will like the photo himself. Cheers.

Hello Henk,
Certainly the force and originality of this great portrait resides a lot in the wonderful blue color of the guy's costume... but what I like more is the black eyes looking straight and sharp into the lens. The quality of your shot is really perfect end the classical composition shows a perfect mastering of depth of field.
Have a nice week-end.
Best regards, Christian

Bonsoir Henk

Hello Henk
Quite simply: An excellent portrait.
Congratulations.
Good day.

Hi Henk, a superb portrait.
The blue dress gives a great contrast to his very clear captured face.
Congratulations.
Evan

Hello Henk: Great colors and sharpness. A couple of things strike me: It looks like he's wearing a t-shirt and I would not be surprised if this guy was only early 30's in age because of how he lives. He looks young yet his face is weathered. Nicely done.

Greg

Henk, a very good portrait to join your ongoing collection of faces of the most different corners of this world. Mohammed's facial expression has an interesting dynamism, full of energy .. difficult to say exactly what it is, but certainly the reason for the success of this portrait.
Regards, Peter

IMO not your best portrait, Henk. Far from I would say. It's not as close and sharp as we use to (and expect to) see from your hand. The light seems to come from behind (or side) which must have made his face quite dark....and you brightened it, didn't you?

What I DO like is that fantastick blue colour.

:) Tina

Henk

Nice portrait of the man in blue. Colours are beautiful! I like the sharpnes and the details on his face. Would be nice to see more portraits. Nino

I like the sense of interaction with your subject here - strong eye contact and an interesting expression captured.
I'm not so sure about the framing though. I think you included a bit too much of his upper body, and didn't leave enough space between his head and the top of the frame. Yep, I think this would have worked better with the whole framing shifted upwards a bit - not by too much, just enough to have a bit more space at the top.
Framing aside, this is one of my favourites of your recent portraits, mainly for the good sense of interaction that I mentioned, but also for the wonderful colour.
Interesting shot Henk.

Cheers,
Ben

I'm sure that he must be very proud of the picture. What I like about this kind of portrait is that remind us that even though we are all humans, the geography of where we leave transforms us making the human being one of the most adaptable animals cruising the planet. (Now I've made it... I'm going to have all the anti-evolution people on my case...) Great portrait, my friend!!
Cheers,
Enrique

hello henk

Mohammed? :)) yes, that's how they call themselves over there. most men... actually, we were told, it was safe to call Mohammed any man we did not know; same as it was safe to call Fatima any female we did not know... :) You can ask avene about a certain combination of "tesh" and "fatima" we heard very close to the place where you took this photo ;)

love your portrait, of course. the blues are deep and saturated, while the light on the face is smooth and pleasing. great direct expression caught on your companion's face too.

my compliments,

Hello Henk. I drive in the autumn to Morocco. That is perhaps the reason, why I stop at this Portrait. Picture and text complement each other in the best way. The Portait is skillfully realized. Besides it is an worth seeing ethnic study . Top. Best regards, Wolfgang.
