[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
not much of a photo composition or deep content wise; just a documentary capture of a carpet display in a fes merchant store.

what made me press the shutter was the festival of natural colors (most of these carpets are died using pigments and dyes from the local mountains and plants). after looking at this picture for more than a year, i started to feel that my little canon has done a satisfying job at capturing this "festival".

imagine, it takes a berber lady months and sometimes years to finish one of these carpets, working in poorly lit conditions frequently to great detriment to their eyesight. and here they are: lying in a big pile to be sold to tourists; a pile of life-stories told in color and pattern.

Hi Kristaps,

the title says by itself. The colors are the main attraction here. Nice interior shot. The lights (did you use flash?) are really fine. Good job!
Regards,
Carlos

thanks for sharing

Hi, Kristaps. A nice blend of warm colours which, as you say in your note, are the result of hard work. The colours are nice and stand well out on the zellige floor.

Hello Kristaps
The colourful carpets are in harmonu with the floor. I would like to buy one of them. I like their colours. Sharpeness is fine showing us many details.
Best regards
Denis!

Hi Kristaps,
the title says it all, but there's much more to this picture than just a blend of nice, warm colors.
Imagine if those carpets only could talk...
I'm thinking about all those poor women who relentlessly work at them in shameful conditions for a shameful pay...
Good and meaningful shot, I appreciate it.
Cheers,
Fulvio.

there were two stories I heard in those carpet shops that I liked best. first, every carpet is a tale, and ornaments in it are meant to illustrate some important aspects of the woman's life. if you've ever seen the carpet unrolled, you'd know that one end - the beginning - is smooth, while the other end is left with fringes, which means that the life story "told" on the carpet is "to be continued" in another carpet, may be by another womam. the second story - well, it boils down to the fact that a husband has to treat his wife the best possible way, otherwise she might go on strike and stop making the carpet. and considering how important the income from selling the carpets is.... I definitely like that story :)
I also like the photo. I managed to count 230 carpets on display here, and as far as I understand, each one is unique. excellent colours, and I find that the simple composition you've chosen fits the story well.
best,
K.

Hello Kristaps,
yes i saw this spectacle with the colourful carpets in a shop in Morocco. As i know from a Greek friend that sells carpets the quality of the colours aren't the best, because of comes out.Informative your note.

I wish you Merry Xmas as your family too and a Happy New Year,Danos

Hi Kristaps,
You were very wise to take this photo. It is not a grand scenic or a stunning portrait, but it is still a very important part of your travelogue. It is a high quality photo which leans more toward the PJ style of photography (I just read your notes and you just stated this) but it is very interesting. I hope that the tourists who purchase these beautiful rugs appreciate all the hard work that the Berber women put into these lovely rugs and don't squabble about the price (I hate chislers). An interesting photo and excellent use of fill-flash! Fill-flash is the most under utilized of all the photographic tools available from my POV. Excellent work!
Stan

P.S. Before I forget, I need to answer your question as to why the gap between the time that I signed up for Trek Earth and my first posting. My former co-worker John Munro (jwmunro) told me about this forum and I signed up for it in 2005 and I didn't post anything until March of 2007. I can be a bit of a procrastinator sometimes.
