Another shot from the same alleyway as yesterday. Different store, though. This one shows a collection of spices stored open and loose, ready to be scooped into a bag for the customer. This is how spices are tradtionally sold in Morocco. The blue plastic sheeting, while reminiscent of the Tuareg coloration, is not traditional.

Technical: Cropping, a bit of Levels, and High Pass sharpening. The tight location, low light and the arrangement of elements makes the focus a problem, but I did what I could with it.

UPDATE I have to agree with the comments that it is not really sharp enough. But I do like the colors, just as the commentators do. So I did some really weird Photoshop games (minimal; I haven't done this before) and posted a WS.

It is a pity that it is sligtly blurred (I think it is because the 1/15 sec and not because of the focus).
Anyway it is really a good image.
So full smile for it.

Hello Daniel,
An excellently composed picture. Spontaneously I feel the cropping could have been even tighter to the right. On the other hand I can't decide exactly where, so I refrain from suggesting anything ;-)
Great observation in any case.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hi Daniel,
I like the shallow dof and the repetition. excellent shot. i like it.

Great idea Dan, but there is some kind of problem with focus that mars the image. Still, I like the concept, with all those different colours and the long perspective on them. This seems almost like an abstract. Well done!

Hi, Dan,
I see, we are neighbours today.
It's an interesting shot of the ones likely to be called "cultural" or "culinary"one:)
Nice colours.

Hi Daniel,

well, it is true...the spicies on the back are not so sharped...but who cares!
I am personally enjoyong this pic....the colours...the contrast...so typical of markets...where you get lost into colours, tastes and fragrances!

Hi Dan
Nice patterns and textures but yes the sharpness is a problem. No tripod eh? The WS idea is great at least it solves the shrpness problem.

Hi Daniel,
Camera has obviously shaken. But I love this on every other aspect. Charming variety of spices with all earth colours and then that intense red in front. I can imagine that's hot!
Good semi-abstract tight framing. WS is fun too.

Hello Dan -

Outside of the softness of the image the colors are really vivid. I have seen this type of market in Saudi Arabia and enjoyed the spice market because of the smells and colors. I was a snap shooter when I was in Arabia so I have nothing relevant to post. A deeper DOF would have been better but you are already at 1/15 and f/11 would have halved the shutter speed making it even slower and more difficult to get a sharp image. Something to think about in situations like this - push the ISO to 400 or 640 and gain another stop of light. Yes, there will be noise but you can deal with that in PP. I am not sure if the D70 has a controllable flash or not but look into using the flash and dial down the output of the flash if that is possible. This is a nice try and I do like it. The WS is a bit a fun.

Thank you for sharing.

John

Hello Daniel,
Another shotexcellent as the previous one,
that shows this collection of spices.
Contrasted colours that create a marvellous
picture of a painter...
Good shot with attractive details
COSTANTINO

Hello daniel,

J'aime les photos d'épices, il y a toujours de belles couleurs. Celle ci manque un peu de netteté, mais elle reste agréable à regarder.
Bonne soirée
Marie

Hi Dan,
from a strictly photographic point of view one could indeed point out the lack of sharpness, but I won't.
It depends on the way one looks at this composition, and mine is from the painter's point of view. Therefore : I like what I see. The colors are vibrant and the POV carefully chosen.
It does look like a painting, and it somehow reminds me of Gauguin.
Good enough for me!
Have a great weekend, I'll be seeing ya.
Ciao,
Fulvio.
