Here is my second gorilla post from my time with the gorillas. (view other one for more details on the gorillas and their habitat)

As i said in the other one, gorillas are only found in this part of the world, shared by three nations - Uganda, the Congo and Rwanda. Rwanda and Uganda protect their habitat quite effectively with vets making sure all the gorillas are healthy, an providing actual armed guards who track the different families in order to ward off poachers.

Sadly, gorillas cannot recognize national boundaries and a few groups spend their time going between the three respective national parks. With that, they wander into the Congo which late last year was the location of 5 of these animals being murdered. They are often killed for their hands and feat for witchcraft purposes.

There is something like 700 gorillas left in their natural habitat. If ever you are in that part of the world, do not hesitate and go see them, it may be 500$ but you will quickly forget the price as there is nothing more worth while - you get the experience of a lifetime, and the money goes to ensuring their protection and healthcare.

I was shooting with my 70-200m f2.8 lens on this trek. I set out in the morning wanting such a shot like this one of their faces and their noses. Their noses are like out finger prints, each one is individual, and by looking at their nose, a guide can tell you it's name. The 2.8 proved useful as they were in and out of the shade on a continual basis, making shooting at 1600 and 2.8 almost always necessary.
