Hello TE!

Looking for composition in the early hours of the morning (04h30) is not an easy task!! :)
Particularly when the tide is high and the only rocks around are the ones you want in your frame, none to balance your tripod on!! The sand gets washed away with the outgoing tide and your tripod legs sink into the sand, skewing your horizon and adding elements in the frame you originally did not want!
Timing, lightning-quick reaction and most importantly, PATIENCE are of the essence ;)

The pic was taken at Umhlanga beach in the very early hours of the morning, the same beach as some of my previous posts.

Umhlanga means 'the place of reeds' in Zulu, one of the 11 official South African languages, and is named after the Ohlanga River which reaches the Indian Ocean three kilometres north of the town. Umhlanga was formed in 1972 through the merger of Umhlanga Rocks, a seaside resort town, and the suburb of La Lucia.

I hope you like!

super atmosphere !

The foam of the waves looks like delicate cotton.
The presence of the stones makes some nice contrast.
A great landscape and a very good technique.

Very impressive photo: perfect time to shot, technique and POV. Super contrast between hard stones and soft water. Nice work
Regards e.

hi costa,
very nice image, the wide angle gives a good composition with the big presence of the foreground.
nice long exposure

Hi Costa,

It isn't easy but it sure is fun isn't it? I really like this one. I enjoy the foreground and the result of the slow shutter speed but what I really appreciate is the wonderful color in this image. The green of the foreground rock goes well with the subtle pinkish tones of the foreground sand and the orange hues on the horizon.

Very nicely done!

Beautiful. One again...well done for doing Umhlanga rocks a huge justice of note!!

Great shot,
Beautiful Colors,
Nice morning chill... :)

I like this one a lot Costa. The exposure looks great. A graduated neutral density filter would have helped here getting even more mood from that sky. But the exposure is very good even without it. I would have worked a bit on partial saturation here. The green from the foreground right rock and the oranges in the sky could benefit from a little pop. Great light! I like this one a lot.
