I've just spent Saturday night and Easter Sunday at the home of one of the worker's from school.

Joesph lives, with his wife Grace & three of his children, in a displaced (euphamism for refugee) village some 47km from Khartoum. He owns a patch of sandy, dusty earth 20m x 10m. The buildings are mud brick strucures Joseph built himself 4 years ago. He used to get his eletricity from a neighbours generator but for the last few weeks it's been broken so it's lamplight at dinner. Water is brought in by a water donkey from the water tower.

It was a privilege to spend time with a family that make so much of so little. I've never been before but was welcomed with great warmth and dragged off to the parish church for the Easter service, where much to my surprise and embarassment (I'm an atheist) I was asked to give the blessing to the children. As a thank you I took some family pics which I'll print off and give to them next week.

This little chap lives over the wall. When he stuck his head over (at the perfect time of the day - light wise) I couldn't resist. Taking note of something said before on TE I zoomed out and stepped in to get as short as DOF as I could. Sadly the wall came out with the face - but I still really like the pic. And the smile was spontaneous - walking around the camp you don't see many sad faces - chastening really.
