Beds Galore (1974) Photo

Photographer’s Note

Another photo from my travels in the 1970s.

There are plenty of beds and wooden saddle frames for sale in this market in Nyala - the capital of the South Darfur state in western Sudan.

I am wondering if such scenes would be seen today as during the ongoing Darfur conflict, thousands of internally displaced persons have gathered near this city in the hope of receiving protection.

Seem the view and memory still fresh in your mind, good quality of a scanned photo, lively shoot to show their simply daily life at old time, this photo is older than me, thanks for sharing.

Were, really, the old times better then the modern times?
Very good quality of the scan; interesting view: I like the perspective view with these beds! Rather an unusual subject for a photo :) It's a pity, though, that (on my monitor) those people in the shade (on the left) look a little too dark. But with such a contrast lighting......!

Hello Marlene,
This reminds me a bit of a hotel where I spent a night in Kosti, south of Khartoum. Beds galore in the courtyard with no roof but the stars. This well scanned old picture brings such an interesting change from the usual TE stuff.

Wonderful soft colours, Marlene, despite the harsh lighting. Good detail and sharpness. How many dpi do you use when scanning the slide?

very interesting this place, chaotic, full of artcraft and human life. the people in their typical clothes, the humble houses, every deatil is interesting. the job with scanner isn't bad here
