This is a picture of women singing in a United Church of Zambia church service. They are not the choir, but rather an impromptu group of singers made up of women church leaders (the ladies in red) and those who joined them. They were singing in perfect pitched harmony, that one has to hear to believe. These women are all from a community of share-croppers who live just outside of Kitwe in the Copper Belt of Zambia.

While traveling in Southern Africa I saw women in various versions of the red outfits seen here. From what I could gather, different churches use different colors. Women consider it an honor to get to wear these uniforms and can even loose the privileged and become in essence defrocked if they miss behave according to the rules of the church. That is as much as I know and if anyone out there knows more, please share. I felt quite privileged just to get to take part in their church service. Unfortunately, I wasn't there long enough to have all my questions answered.

I do know this picture, is not quite up to TE standards, but I'm posting it because I think it serves the purpose of showing daily life in Zambia.
