Travels on the Silk Road:
One historical branch of the Silk Road from the Black Sea through Tbilisi and Armenia to Tabris in Iran led to lake Sevan in mars Gegharkunik, Armenia. The small rivers feeding into the lake bring some fine volcanic particles that are responsible for the turquoise colour . Armenia impresses with the age of its churches. The Sevanavank (monastery) was built in 874, and was not modified since. It has survived several earthquakes. A second, better conserved but less accessible monastery from he 9th century is at a nearby shore, Hayravank.

The slide was scanned. In the foreground of the church a detracting pile of debris was covered by stamping. The turquoise colour had to be brought to a natural level. The pic was cropped and sharpened. Enjoy!
