Photographer’s Note

The monastery of Geghard contains a number of churches and tombs, most of them cut into the rock, which illustrate the very peak of Armenian medieval architecture. The complex of medieval buildings is set into a landscape of great natural beauty, surrounded by towering cliffs at the entrance to the Azat Valley.
The monastery of Geghard, with its remarkable rock-cut churches and tombs, is an exceptionally well preserved and complete example of medieval Armenian monastic architecture and decorative art, with many innovatory features which had a profound influence on subsequent developments in the region.

I don't know exactly what is this ceremony...but maybe someone will tell me something about it?

Hi Grzegorz, you've captured a nice soft light here & the colours are very natural. You have done well considering the low light levels. You may have done even beter if you had opened the aperture to its maximum and used a slightly faster shutter speed to remove the bits of motion blur here & there.

As for the ceremony, I myself am a Roman Catholic, but it looks very similar to a baptism (although the children are a lot older than usual) or a confirmation which would normally take place at around that age. There appears to be a font in the background, and the candles carried by what might be the Godparents leads me to believe it is the former.

From the date it seems that this is the ceremony of blessing the grape fruit, so that people begins eating it. The ceremony is dedicated to Mary.
